攜手合作
2009年國際翻譯日的主題號召世界各地的譯者以全新目光看待攜手合作的重要性與方式。
諸多行業(yè)觀察家稱，獨(dú)善其身的翻譯工作者告別孤芳自賞的日子已經(jīng)指日可待了。這倒不是說大規(guī)模集體化已迫在眉睫——在這種，或者更確切地說，這類語言敏感性職業(yè)中，很大一部分附加值仍然是由極其個(gè)性化的服務(wù)創(chuàng)造的。
但是，技術(shù)和不斷變化的市場打破了種種樊籬。今天，世界各地的譯者得以投身于一個(gè)真正全球性的對話之中，賦予傳統(tǒng)的工作方式以新的意義，創(chuàng)造出新的機(jī)遇。而當(dāng)今更高的客戶要求、更復(fù)雜的項(xiàng)目和更緊迫的時(shí)限也更加突出了交流觀點(diǎn)、信息和最佳做法的優(yōu)勢。
考慮到：
l 翻譯服務(wù)交易雙方之間的人際互動(dòng)有助于更好地理解文本的目的，促進(jìn)人們認(rèn)識到杰出翻譯所發(fā)揮的作用。毫無疑問，無論是文學(xué)翻譯、技術(shù)翻譯、口譯、術(shù)語或是字幕配譯，如果客戶能夠參與到翻譯進(jìn)程當(dāng)中——無論他們就在馬路對面還是在五個(gè)時(shí)區(qū)以外，都有利于優(yōu)化譯文質(zhì)量，并最終創(chuàng)造更好的工作條件。存在的問題：如何才能順理成章地將客戶帶入翻譯過程？
l 新的翻譯標(biāo)準(zhǔn)強(qiáng)調(diào)審校環(huán)節(jié)的重要性。其基本要求是由兩個(gè)人負(fù)責(zé)審核，但在實(shí)踐中，參與者可能更多。存在的問題：是廚師太多湯易變味，還是把審校環(huán)節(jié)作為激勵(lì)同行進(jìn)行交流的機(jī)會(huì)？
l 多語種項(xiàng)目的數(shù)量正在增加，要求各語言團(tuán)隊(duì)之間加強(qiáng)協(xié)調(diào)與互動(dòng)；一個(gè)語言對中找到的解決辦法可能為全球范圍內(nèi)的合作伙伴提供啟發(fā)。越來越多的項(xiàng)目需要語言學(xué)家們形成合力，項(xiàng)目管理也因此顯得更加重要。存在的問題：翻譯服務(wù)提供方應(yīng)如何采納、順應(yīng)或創(chuàng)建相應(yīng)的方式來實(shí)現(xiàn)迅速而有效的合作？
l 翻譯實(shí)踐與翻譯理論及信息管理息息相關(guān)：為了更好地服務(wù)于只會(huì)一種語言的出口商和出版商，促進(jìn)文化交流，豐富科學(xué)辯論，翻譯工作者越來越多地利用術(shù)語工作者的成果，在某些情況下，還包括學(xué)者的成果。存在的問題：如何才能充分利用這些曾在相對孤立的情況下工作的眾多人士的智慧，產(chǎn)生出最佳效果？

2009 International Translation Day
Working Together
The 2009 theme for International Translation Day invites translators around the world to take a fresh look at why and how it pays to join forces.
The days of the fiercely solitary translator working in splendid isolation are numbered, say many industry observers. Not that massive collectivization is in sight: in this language-sensitive profession—or, more accurately, set of professions—a large share of added value remains intensely personal.
But technology and changing markets have broken down barriers. Today translators from around the globe can plug into a truly worldwide conversation that casts new light on traditional ways of working—and creates new opportunities. Even as the arrival of more demanding clients, more complex projects and tighter deadlines underscores the advantages of exchanging ideas, information and best practices.
Consider:
l Personal interaction between translation providers and buyers leads to better understanding of a text’s purpose and increased awareness of the impact an outstanding translation can have. From literary and technical translation to interpreting, terminology, subtitling and more, there’s no doubt that clients who get involved in the translation process—be they across the road or five time-zones away—make for better quality texts, and, ultimately, better working conditions. Q: How can translation users best be brought into the process?
l New translation standards emphasize the importance of revision. At its most basic, this means four-eye review, but in practice far more people can be involved. Q: Are too many cooks spoiling the soup, or is revision an opportunity for stimulating exchange among peers?
l Multilingual projects are on the rise, encouraging coordination and interaction between language teams; a solution found in one language pair may provide insights for partners around the globe. And as more and more projects require linguists to join forces, project management has taken on new importance. Q: How can translation providers adopt, adapt or create methods for working together quickly and efficiently?
l Practice meets theory meets information management: increasingly, translators and interpreters draw on the work of terminologists and, in some cases, academics, to better serve monolingual exporters and publishers, promote cultural exchange and enrich scientific debate.
l Q: How can the insights of this multitude of players, who once worked in relative isolation, be harnessed to best effect?
l For professional associations and other bodies serving the translation industry, access to once-remote contacts has never been easier. Cross-border contacts are an email away, and networking expands the reach and influence of institutions in ways that past generations of linguists could only dream of. Q: How are the most innovative associations using these new resources to raise professional standards and enhance their clout?
These and other challenges will be in the spotlight in 2009, as participating associations examine how “Working Together” in new ways, both formal and informal, can enhance translators’ ability to use the power of language to help people around the world live, learn and work together.
